JASON DANIELEY (Director/Actor/Singer and Lecturer)
Critically acclaimed and award-winning Broadway actor, singer and concert performer, Jason Danieley, has had a career that spans 30 years of originating roles in many new musicals on and off Broadway and in Regional Theatres across the country (Floyd Collins, The Full Monty, Dream True, The Highest Yellow, Curtains, Some Lovers, Secondhand Lions, The Visit, Pretty Woman and most recently Ahrens & Flaherty's new musical Knoxville), to singing around the world with major symphony orchestras (The Boston and New York Pops, BBC Concert Orchestra, New York/Czech/LA Philharmonic, etc.), and filmed performances on PBS (South Pacific, Carousel, Sondheim Birthday Celebration, He Said/She Said, Ring them Bells: Music of Kander & Ebb) as well as cabaret performances across the nation.
His collaboration as director on Lynn Ahrens: A Lyric Life, chosen by Ms. Ahrens herself, for the Lyrics & Lyricists series at NYC’s 92nd St Y, was a “remarkably impressive” success and started him down the path of directing.
During the height of the COVID pandemic, Mr. Danieley created original content, wrote and hosted several episodes of the live-stream web series Stars In The House (created and hosted by Seth Rudetsky and James Wesley).
Among these specials were a benefit episode for CSC (Cancer Support Community) premiering clips from the new concert video release of Broadway & Beyond (Starring Marin Mazzie and Mr. Danieley), a Floyd Collins Reunion featuring members of the original company as well as the creative team (Adam Guettel & Tina Landau) and never before seen video footage of the original production, a Curtains Reunion which also featured members of the original Broadway company (Including David Hyde Pierce & Debra Monk) and creative team (Scott Ellis, David Loud & Rupert Holmes), and premiered the music video “Show People”, from the musical Curtains, starring the entire original company and creative team, which he conceived, wrote, directed and produced to benefit The Entertainment Community Fund.
In 2021 Mr. Danieley directed Rupert Holmes’ The Mystery of Edwin Drood at NKU (Northern Kentucky University), and curated a Q&A with Mr. Holmes for the student body of the School of the Arts.
In the summer of 2022 Mr. Danieley co-created, with Keith Lockhart, wrote, directed and performed in the concert Remembering Stephen Sondheim for The Boston Pops at Tanglewood.
In May and July of 2023 Mr. Danieley co-produced and directed the premiere of Ragtime: The Symphonic Concert, a two hour symphonic version of the American Music Theatre masterpiece, with The Boston Pops and the creators of the musical, Lynn Ahrens and Stephen Flaherty, at Symphony Hall in Boston and a reprise performance at Tanglewood. The cast included Broadway stars Alton Fitzgerald White, Elizabeth Stanley, John Cariani, David Harris, Nikki Renee Daniels, A.J. Shively and Klea Blackhurst rounded out by a 24 person ensemble of Boston's Finest Actors and Singers.
Among his greatest artistic accomplishments Mr. Danieley has co-created and directed many of the concerts he performed with his late wife, Broadway star, Marin Mazzie, including producing two albums Opposite You and Broadway & Beyond (also a video release) and the PBS performance of He Said/She Said. His numerous solo concert shows Jason Danieley & The Frontier Heroes (his band, which also produced an album), Romantic Notions, A Heart To Heart, Reflections and Homecoming have all received wide critical acclaim. His most recent cabaret concert is a musical meditation on some of the big questions in life, entitled Without A Song, which premiered at Tennessee Performing Arts Center in July of 2023 followed by two shows at New York City's premiere nightclub, 54Below, on August 18 & 19.
Alongside his performing and directing, Mr. Danieley gives master classes in song interpretation for regional theatres and universities around the country.
